Pet Adoption Has Never Been More Important

PETstock Assist is calling for New Zealanders to adopt pets in need of a good home this month, as March celebrated national pet adoption month.

PETstock has announced an initiative called ‘Adopt Different’ and is urging the adoption of many animals due to the ever-present number of animals caught in the cycle of pet homelessness.

To celebrate national pet adoption month, PETstock stores across the country will be holding an in-store adoption drive throughout the month of march, creating a simpler process for New Zealanders to make a change for the long term.

With the SPCA alone seeing an increase of 20 percent more animals being sheltered in their care last year, the urge for families or individuals to take home a pet has never been direr than now.

‘Adopt Different’ has highlighted the need to keep your heart and mind open during the adoption process. PETstock Assist is particularly focused on amplifying the need of owners for large dogs, cats, and bonded pairings who need to stay together.

PETstock charity and events lead, Sherralea Cassidy said that this campaign could not be more important than it is now.

“Adopting Different essentially means, adopting the pet you connect with. We’re challenging Kiwis to think differently and open their hearts to the possibility of an unexpected new family member, you never know who you may meet and how they will positively impact your life. Every time you adopt a pet, you’re playing a role in ending pet homelessness in New Zealand.”

Envisioning a country where all pets are loved, PETstock has worked with charity organisations and partner suppliers in their endeavour to positively change the lives of pets and families in the long haul.

National pet month is a month-long event, ending on the 31st of March, and a national pet adoption weekend will be held on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of March.
