Stay single, stay safe!
A cutesy romcom meets psycho killer, that’s Heart Eyes for you.
For the past several years, the Heart Eyes Killer or HEK as the characters call it, has wreaked havoc on Valentine’s Day by stalking and murdering couples.
The plot follows Ally (Olivia Holt), a marketing executive at a jewellery company, whose star-crossed, ‘til death do us part lovers’ type of social media campaign fails.
Jay Simmons (Mason Gooding) has then been hired to fix Ally’s mess.
What starts as a workplace collab quickly turns into a full-blown serial killer chase when the Heart Eyes killer crashes their not-so-professional work/dinner date.
Despite informing the HEK mid-chase that the two aren’t a couple, the killer wants to kill them, having seen their passionate kiss, which was only a performance to make an ex jealous (so toxic, but who hasn’t been there…right?).
This turns into a night of jail time and drive-in massacres to an airport chase and brutal beheadings in a church inspired by St. Valentine’s; the film doesn’t hold back with its gruesome and detailed killing scenes.
The movie did try to play with the audience and frame Jay as the HEK, but there’s a twist.
This isn’t just a psycho in a mask; it’s a “team effort”, like proper serious relationship goals or maybe like Hobbs and Shaw? 😉
Heart Eyes is obviously not the best movie ever, but it is still exactly what you expect: some cringe dialogues, some laughs, and lots of blood and chaos. If you love a horror comedy, Heart Eyes is not too bad at all.
Will the HEK return next Valentine’s? The mid-credit scene does leave us with what could be a possible sequel.
From the producers of Scream, #HeartEyesMovie will be in theatres on the 13th of February.
