Review | Karate Kid Legends – Same Punch, Still Hits

Karate Kid Legends is exactly what it says on the tin: short, punchy, action-packed, and honestly, just a good time.

It doesn’t pretend to reinvent the wheel – in fact, it leans all the way into the classic underdog formula we’ve seen a million times.

New kid. Martial arts tournament. Bully. Mentor(s). Big final fight. But even knowing exactly how it’s going to go (yes, Li Fong wins), you still find yourself totally rooting for him.

Ben Wang as Li Fong? Stunning breakout performance. He brings so much heart, confidence, and intensity to the role – you want him to succeed.

Aramis Knight as Conor Day? Certified hot villain. You hate him, but also, you get it. He’s the classic cocky bad guy who’s way too good-looking to fully despise.

One thing that added a bit more emotion to the story was Li’s mum. She’s so not on board with him fighting, and fair enough. His older brother literally died after winning a competition in Beijing; the loser dragged both brothers into a gang situation, and it ended tragically.

So yeah, she’s obviously scared of history repeating itself. But somehow Han (Jackie Chan, of course) manages to talk her around. I mean, who’s really gonna say no to Jackie Chan?

The fight scenes? So good. Exactly what you’d hope for in a Karate Kid film. Snappy, clean choreography, and just the right level of dramatic slow-mo. I didn’t need to overthink anything; I just sat back, zoned out, and vibed.

Despite all the fight sequences being equally stunning, the moment that really lands the hardest is when Li reinvents his late brother’s signature dragon jump kick and uses it as the final winning blow against Conor, who’s been fighting with this aggressive tiger-style technique the whole time.

Li sets a trap, times it perfectly, and boom, the dragon takes down the tiger. Total goosebumps moment!

This is 100% a rewatch movie – the kind you throw on when you’re bored and need a good martial arts fix with nostalgia thrown in.

Seeing Jackie Chan (as Han Shifu) and Ralph Macchio (as Daniel LaRusso) together on screen was such a fun crossover moment.

Like, yeah, they’re older now, but watching their characters interact was kind of wholesome and hilarious at the same time. Jackie Chan still has that same charm. He could literally just stand there, and I’d smile.

There were even a few moments that had me genuinely laughing, and I appreciated the little throwbacks and nods to the OG films. They didn’t overdo it, just enough to make you go “ohhh nice.”

The ending also kind of hints at something more? Maybe a sequel? Or maybe Li Fong popping up in Cobra Kai next to Sensei LaRusso? Either way, I’m into it.

Karate Kid Legends is not trying to be deep or groundbreaking. It’s just fun. Classic good vs. evil, kick-to-the-face, sensei wisdom kind of stuff. And sometimes, that’s all you really want.
