Like Prime Video’s Harlan Coben’s Shelter, Netflix’s The Stranger, and most recently, the streamer’s megahit Fool Me Once, Netflix’s latest mystery thriller, Missing You is a good watch.
This five-part limited series blends mystery and drama and is binge-worthy and from the opening scene to the final moments, keeps you engaged with plot twists and personal revelations for the central character Kat Donovan.
Set in the UK, the story follows Detective Inspector Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar), the determined head of the Missing Persons department. Eleven years ago, Kat’s fiancé, Josh (Ashley Walters), vanished without a trace. She has never stopped wondering what happened to him, until one fateful moment changes everything.
The series explores the contrast between wanting answers and accepting the truth. Kat, driven and focused in her professional life, struggles with unresolved emotions personally.
Encouraged by her best friends Aqua (Mary Malone) and Stacey (Jessica Plummer), she steps back into the world of dating, only to be confronted by a past that refuses to stay buried as she flicks through a dating app and finds Josh. Kat is stunned to see Josh’s face, reigniting past heartbreak and throwing up more questions than answers.
Well paced, Missing You unfolds several intertwining mysteries as Kat works tirelessly to make sense of her past, examining how grief and longing has shaped her life.
Beyond Kat’s personal journey, Missing You delves into broader themes, including the influence of friendships and the complexities of morality. The show challenges viewers to consider the gray areas between right and wrong.
With its solid performances and sharp storytelling, Missing You is a good watch. It’s a series that while not keeping you on the edge of your seat, does have a plot twist that you mightn’t see coming.
