Another newcomer to the Shondaland Television Universe.
After the success of the hit period drama Bridgerton and scammer origin story Inventing Anna, producer Shonda Rhimes’s Netflix domination continues with The Residence, a comedy-drama White House murder mystery.
132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.
The eight-episode series was inspired by Kate Andersen Brower’s 2015 nonfiction book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House, which delved into the nitty-gritty of America’s first families–from the Kennedys and Reagans to the Clintons and Obamas–all from the point of view of their staffers.
Uzo Aduba leads the series as Cordelia Cupp, a wry investigator tasked with untangling the quirky case. Other incredible members of the cast include Randall Park, Giancarlo Esposito, Susan Kelechi Watson, Jane Curtin, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Edwina Findley, and so many more, including Kylie Minogue.
A murderer is lurking in the halls of the White House, and Cordelia is the only person who can figure out their identity. However, political tensions, escalating lies, and boiling resentment will complicate her mission.
The Residence is now streaming only on Netflix.
