Season 1 of The Rig explored the sins of the past. Season 2 is a fight for the future.
Picking up immediately after their escape from the North Sea tsunami, which devastated the UK and Northern European coasts, the surviving Kinloch Bravo crew finds themselves captives of Coake on a new rig deep in the Arctic circle.
Named after the Scots Gaelic word for ‘pinnacle’, the Stac is a state-of-the-art prototype facility used by Pictor to explore the emerging real-world field of deep-sea mining.
On arrival, an emergency reportedly linked to the tsunami forces Coake to enlist the help of Magnus and the Bravo team. But established hierarchies are quickly thrown into flux when Rose’s former mentor and now Pictor CEO Morgan Lennox arrives on board with an offer that splits the crew.
While Magnus, Rose, Fulmer and Coake remain in the Arctic, battling each across two of the harshest environments on Earth to combat the ever-growing threat of the Ancestor, Cat and Hutton agree to Lennox’s devil’s bargain and return to land, only to find themselves pawns in an escalating war within Pictor as the company scrambles to cover-up its part in the disaster still unfolding at home.
This war will test loyalties like never before, introducing new characters and driving our cast from the ruins of the old world to the dangers of a brand-new one.
As lies are uncovered and betrayals and double-crosses mount both on land and at sea, violence erupts on The Stac, challenging Magnus’ belief in unity and forcing him to confront the darkness in the hearts of others.
While Rose struggles with the burden of command and guilt from the past, her determination to find out the truth drives a wedge between her and Fulmer, a divide that Coake is ready to exploit in his attempts to get back on top.
All the while, the spectre of the Ancestor lurks in the darkness, waiting to be discovered, revealing the accurate scale of the threat it may pose to humanity.
