All Aboard the Rosé Train

A North Canterbury winery has combined the old and the new in a three-course experience like no other. Georges Road is celebrating the 2022 release of their popular Les Terrasses Rosé onboard a vintage steam locomotive.

Starting at the Weka Pass railway station in Waipara, the home of the North Canterbury Wine Region, guests will be greeted by accountant turned winery owner, Kirk Bray and a glass of the new Rosé.

“The Les Terrasses Rosé is our take on a classic European, dry and vibrant Rosé. Our 2021 vintage was incredibly popular and although we might be biased, we think 2022 is the best yet so we wanted to do something special to celebrate,” said Bray.

“We loved the idea of going old school for the new wine release, the Weka Pass steam train is a real hidden gem in North Canterbury and it’s not often you get to see the area from that viewpoint.”

Canapés will be served at the platform before settling in aboard the train to journey through the unique limestone beauty of the Weka Pass to Waikari.

At the station, the guests will be met by local chef Kate McMillan for a delicious seasonal lunch with grilled organic chicken, and smoked Akaroa salmon alongside fresh salads, all made from local ingredients and accompanied by a glass of wine.

“Kate is a phenomenal chef, we love her ethos around seasonal and local produce, it’s a great way to highlight what the region has to offer.”

On the return journey, a sweet treat will be served as the final course and each guest will be gifted a Georges Road wine glass to take home.

“This event is a first for us and we can’t wait to share this unique experience and our new release with our guests – so hop onboard the Rosé Train and be the first to try it!”
