BLUNT has reunited with renowned Tā Moko artist and cultural advisor Graham Tipene (Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei) for a second limited-edition umbrella collaboration.
Launching today, 17th September, during Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, the collab features two BLUNT umbrella styles:
- BLUNT x Graham Tipene — Metro: The compact, everyday umbrella that fits easily into a bag or backpack. Built with an auto-open button and BLUNT’s 360° spinning technology, allowing the canopy to flex on impact in tight spaces.
- BLUNT x Graham Tipene — Classic: A full-coverage umbrella with a high-tensioned canopy built for all-day protection against wind, rain and shine.
Named Kawakawa, the new design followed the complete sell-out of BLUNT and Tipene’s first partnership, and draws inspiration from Te Reo Māori, honouring both the treasured pounamu variety Kawakawa and the native kawakawa plant, both taonga held in high regard.
The collaboration carries personal significance for Tipene, whose father was raised in Kawakawa, Northland, among his Ngāti Hine people, and lived through decades when Māori were discouraged from speaking their own language.
The design honours the resilience of those who safeguarded Te Reo Māori through that history.
