Cher and Her Kiwi Food Love

You best believe it, Cher is now selling gelato.

Renowned New Zealand gelato artisan, Gianpaolo Grazioli (Giapo), has partnered with the international recording artist to launch ‘Cherlato,’ a new mobile gelato truck. The new concept is scheduled to roam the streets of Los Angeles for its debut weekend in late July.

The Cherlato truck has been stocked with freshly made gelato, with seasonal ingredients, all presented with beautifully presented products in bold and playful colours and toppings. The collaboration is committed to producing a unique and celebratory experience to all customers.

Turning back time, the Kiwi connection has been in the making since 2018 for Cher, but she confessed that it’s the gelato that gets you out of bed at midnight.

“It’s no secret that I absolutely love ice cream and gelato. When I tasted Giapo’s gelato while on tour in Auckland, New Zealand, it was the best I’d ever had. When I returned to his store the next day, he prepared each flavour for me to taste. I loved them all. Giapo is truly the Michaelangelo of gelato,” said Cher.

Giapo said that the harmony of gelato is to have respect for nature, and that Cherlato has a mutual commitment to quality and authenticity.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with her in bringing the unparalleled taste of freshly made,  locally-sourced, artisan gelato to Los Angeles. It is fun and delicious, just the way we like it. We are proud to work with fresh, premium sustainable ingredients,” said Giapo.

Giapo first opened his Auckland store 150 years ago with his wife Annarosa. Unsatisfied with the dominant narratives of Italian gelato artisan shops and American ice cream, he sought to create something entirely new.

Flavours of the new Cherlato range include ‘Snap Out of It! Kefir and Cardamom’, ‘Breakfast at Cher’s Coffee and Donuts’, ‘Chocolate XO Cher’, ‘Stracciatella Giapo’s Way’, ‘LA, I Love you’ (V) – and ‘SoCal’s Coldest Avocado on Toast’, a delectable treat featuring avocado and breadcrumbs.
