Coco Reo Māori’ Releases In Select New Zealand Cinemas

Matewa Media and The Walt Disney Company hosted a special screening event at SkyCity Theatre in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland to celebrate the theatrical release of Disney and Pixar’s Coco Reo Māori.

More than 700 guests attended the event to experience the Māori language version of the film on the big screen for the very first time. These included Mānuera Mānihera (“Miguel”), Troy Kingi (“Héctor”), Kuini Moehau Reedy (“Abuelita”) and the filmmakers behind this unique adaptation, Producer and Director Tweedie Waititi, Producer Chelsea Winstanley, and Music Director Rob Ruha.

The celebrations kicked off with a red-carpet arrival and a live Mariachi band. A whakatau from Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei welcomed guests, and speeches from the filmmakers followed.

The movie adds to the Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios collection of animated films developed in the Māori language version by Matewa Media directors. Others include Moana Reo Māori, The Lion King Reo Māori and Frozen Reo Māori, all now streaming on Disney+.

Coco Reo Māori releases on Thursday, the 13th of July, just in time for Matariki, making it the perfect film to watch while celebrating with family.
