Dry Lips Getting You Down?

It’s that time of the year again, the seasons are changing and it’s starting to feel like the elements are conspiring against you by drying your lips out like never before.

But fear not! We, with the help of Jordan Allomes, MECCA Skincare Education Lead, have compiled a little list of things to remember when buying your perfect lip balm.

Firstly, make sure to include a lip balm in your daily routine. Lip balms work to moisturise and protect your lips by creating a barrier from the outside world. Lip balm is also an important prep step for lipstick wearers to ensure a smooth and even application.

Apply lip balm regularly. The skin on your lips is much thinner than the skin on your face and contains no sebaceous glands, which are responsible for creating natural moisturising oils. Because of this, your lips are more prone to dryness and are more easily affected by environmental factors such as dry air, wind, or cold weather. Applying lip balm regularly will help to replenish moisture and keep your lips protected.

Choose lip balms with nourishing ingredients. Lip balms with ingredients like shea butter, lanolin, vitamin E, and hyaluronic acid nourish and smooth the skin on your lips as well as create a protective barrier to lock in moisture.

Choose a lip balm with SPF. UV exposure is so harmful, especially in New Zealand where the ozone layer is thinner than in other parts of the world. Lip balms with SPF included offer additional protection from the harmful rays of sun.
