Jeremy Kyle branded as ‘patronising bully’

A former guest on The Jeremy Kyle show has branded the show’s host as a ‘patronising bully’ after reportedly being harassed and manipulated.

Kane Manning appeared on the show in 2017 and claimed he was repeatedly contacted and ‘harassed’ by the show’s producers. Manning said producers were contacting him relentlessly to ask him to appear on an episode in which his family members would confront a woman who they believed was lying about Manning’s brother being the father of her child.

“They harassed me for ages and they just wouldn’t stop calling me,” Manning said.

Once Manning relented, he claimed he was then manipulated into acting for the show’s drama. He said family members were held in separate rooms ahead of the show and producers would go back and forth with different versions of the story.

“They were like, ‘When you go on the show be more aggressive and angrier,’ and, ‘Say your brother isn’t the father,'” Manning said.

“Why do you (think) people that have been on the show are emotionally and mentally angry? It’s the producers that are doing it. They put words in people’s heads.”

Manning said he never received any aftercare after the show. Instead, he received a phone call thanking him for being on the show and telling him when the episode will air.

Recently a group of UK MP’s investigating the show as the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) committee said The Jeremy Kyle Show does not commit to the aftercare it has claimed to provide.  The DCMS also viewed behind the scenes footage where Kyle was shown deliberately provoking and verbally abusing his guests, which was then edited and cut out before the show would air.

Manning said the shows producers don’t show everything that occurs and branded the show as ‘fake.’

“They don’t show everything and they cut words out,” he said.

“Jeremy is a bully and he knows what he is doing.”

The Jeremy Kyle Show was cancelled in May after a previous guest died in a suspected suicide following the recording of his episode. Since the show has been cancelled there has been many claims of the show being fake and Kyle as patronising.
