The world-famous Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix returns to New Zealand after a 10-year hiatus.
New Zealand’s most fearless, fun-loving and ingenious teams have been called to apply for the chance to design and build creative, outrageous and wacky non-motorised trolleys to race through the Auckland Domain once again.
The event will see 40 teams of five members from around the country create the most ingenious and craziest trolleys. Relying solely on gravity and momentum, they will race down a challenging, obstacle-filled course in front of thousands of spectators.
Judged on speed, creativity and showmanship, teams will also be dressed to impress and will try to wow the crowd and judges through a creative performance before taking on the course.
Internationally known as Red Bull Soap Box, the iconic event has been hosted in over 90 cities worldwide since 2000 and has seen thousands of variations of creative designs, from a Harry Potter-inspired Knight Bus to Mario Kart and even Taylor Swift.
As a nation known for its ingenuity and innovation, New Zealanders are set to make their mark.
Rotorua’s Red Stag Hunters claimed the last title in 2015 for their expertly crafted trolley, which brought a giant red stag to life. The team was dressed impeccably in matching hunting outfits. Team member Paul Laing is ready for their comeback.
“We were stoked to hear Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix is finally returning! It was an epic experience to be part of with some fierce competition. We’re ready to apply and give it our best shot to claim the title again.”
Teams will need to demonstrate their most incredulous, creative designs. Those who stand out will be selected to bring their designs to life and embark on a four-month journey before taking them to the track.
The sixth edition of the Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix is set to be held in the Auckland Domain on the 15th of February 2025 and will be free for the public to enjoy.
