MAFS S10 E11 | “You don’t need to love me, you don’t even need to like me, but you do need to respect me.”

Married At First Sight (MAFS): whether you know it, love it and can’t get enough of it or have absolutely no clue what it is, it is undoubtedly all anyone in the office is talking about.

For all those too pressed for time to watch (or would rather watch anything else), this is your (somewhat) reliable source of juicy updates to keep up with all the office banter.

For the avid MAFS viewers, if you’re here because you want to know whether or not your MAFS opinions are controversial, I hope you find solace below.

Episode Eleven: Intimacy Week Part Two

Intimacy week has taken some couples leaps and bounds in positive directions and others straight into a downward spiral.

However, one couple that has grown from being in the throes of conflict and jealousy is Jesse and Claire. For this episode, Claire chooses to organise a date with Jesse to visit her favourite crystal shop. While this has previously toed around ‘ick’ territory for Jesse, he made a genuine effort to be involved in the date, even picking out a Jasper crystal.

“We all know what I think about crystals and star signs, but Claire is into it. I think it’s important that Claire sees that I’m trying,” Jesse revealed.

The two burned sage together to cleanse their space. Whether or not this will re-emerge as an ‘ick’ for Jesse remains to be seen.

Melinda and Layton were instructed to stare into each other’s eyes for five minutes. This was a task that Layton did not understand, and Melinda quickly became frustrated about Layton’s seriousness in their relationship and her.

“I feel like if we stay how we are, it’s going to fizzle out”, explained Melinda.

Later the couple made amends, with Layton sweetly organising a dance lesson for them, where he even forgot a step because he got lost gazing adoringly into Melinda’s eyes.

However, Harrison and Bronte got along with this experiment for the first time since their wedding. While they didn’t stay silent when staring into each other’s eyes, the two giggled like school kids, even reminiscing about which of them was naughty (Harrison, of course) and well-behaved (neither, it seems).

This amicability will likely be short-lived. Bronte and Harrison’s issues with communication have been swept under the rug rather than dealt with, a surefire way to slowly destroy a relationship.

The biggest shock of the evening was for Caitlin. Shannon (the one who confessed he was still in love with his ex) organised a charming date the night previous that earned him brownie points for thoughtfulness.

However, the following day Shannon appeared emotionally distant. Caitlin, rightly confused by her partner’s behaviour just as they became parents of a pot plant, spoke with Shannon about what was happening.

Shannon then decided it would be a good idea to tell his wife that she was good-looking, just not to him.

I thought you were going to come down that aisle and completely blow me away,

“I thought you were going to come down that aisle and completely blow me away,” said Shannon.

He followed his statements by claiming that he would never have brought up his ex and kept in contact with them if this had been the case. Shannon’s statements were a distasteful and childish way of blaming the patient, generous, and understanding Caitlin for his bad behaviour.

Caitlin removed herself from the situation to gather herself but was visibly shaken by the statements made by her husband. After gathering her thoughts and feelings, Caitlin re-entered the couple’s shared apartment and defended herself with a grace that had me cheering her on from the sofa.

“You don’t need to love me, you don’t even need to like me, but you do need to respect me.”

Caitlin gave Shannon the telling off he deserved while he sat sullenly attempting to interrupt her. A great moment where Caitlin realised and then defended her worth.

For Alyssa and Duncan, intimacy week ended with a ‘bang’ after sexual tension from following Alessandra’s exercises proved too much to ignore.
