Episode Twelve: The Second Dinner Party

For any regular viewers, this second dinner party was an underwhelming experience. The hyped-up dramatic music for gossip moments that deflated into nothing made for an episode where poor choices and behaviours were left unresolved.

The episode began with Lyndall and Claire confessing that they had both witnessed Shannon out walking with his daughter and a mystery woman. While the incident could have appeared innocent, both Lyndall and Claire became suspicious as Shannon noticed them and raised his hand in a gesture to shush them.

This piece of information caused friction between Lyndall and Cameron, who had appeared, up until this point, a very lovey-dovey couple. Lyndall, who had previously spoken out at the first commitment ceremony about Adam and Claire, found herself again in the centre of another couples drama.

Cameron expressed that he felt his partner should mind her own business, whereas Lyndall tearily confessed she could not abandon parts of her identity while part of the experiment and thought it would be wrong not to speak up.

“So you’re putting everybody else before me”, stated Cameron before walking out of the room in a huff.

The tension between the couple remained even as they drove to the dinner party.

I feel like I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place,

“I feel like I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place,” said Lyndall, attributing the rock and the hard place and both her and Cameron.

Other couples entered the dinner as a united front, most notably Jesse and Claire. The couple sweetly got ready together and decided to play a prank on everyone else.

Claire entered the dinner party seemingly alone as every other couple barely contained their shock when Jesse suddenly strolled out from behind the door with a chuffed expression.

However, the good humour of the evening did not last long. The potential for Shannon’s reckoning was thwarted when it was revealed that he was simply out with his cousin. Boo. Yet, the real betrayal of the night was from Harrison.

The unlikely groom duo, Dan and Harrison, had gone out together. Harrison quickly spread gossip around the table that Dan had accepted the number of a woman flirting with him. The truth was the opposite.

While the table spiralled into despair, thinking Dan had betrayed Sandy, it quickly became apparent that the stories Harrison told Dan, and the rest of the group did not add up. A classic diversion tactic, however, Harrison’s deception was soon apparent to all around the table.

The truth did not rectify the circumstances for Dan, who was betrayed by Harrison, crucified by the group for something he didn’t do and finally, had a conflict with Sandy about the whole affair.

“You’re not here for me,” stated an upset Sandy.

Let’s hope there is some justice for Dan and Harrison can take responsibility for his actions when confronted with the truth. That would be the most optimistic outcome, the likelihood of which is not convincing.
