Having premiered at Whanau Marama NZIFF2023, Ewan Collins’ original score and soundtrack to Annie Goldson’s feature documentary is Red Mole: A Romance.
The original score accentuates Red Mole’s most significant moments and underlying romances and follows the Red Mole theatre troupe, accompanied by archival footage of Red Mole’s performances.
Opening Theme begins the film with the sombre and fragile, hinting at the devastating culmination of Alan & Sally.
The track Warning Messages captures the excitement and anxiety of the troupe’s relocation to New York, while The Big Change and Numbered Days cover Red Mole’s avant-garde and forward-thinking live shows.
In Signs of All closes the film with a dark reinterpretation of the central theme, with a poetic and sweeping vocal from Lauren Collins.
Red Mole: A Romance will be released on Valentine’s Day in selected cinemas across Aotearoa.
