REVIEW | Murder at Thornwood Park

Murder at Thornwood Park by Joan Sauers felt a little like settling in for a good Sunday night mystery, or an episode of Midsomer Murders.

The Women’s Auxiliary Air Force storyline gave the book added depth and helped lift it beyond a straightforward murder mystery. It was a comfortable read, but never dull. The pacing was good, the tension was well maintained, and there were enough twists to keep me turning the pages. I enjoyed the Southern Highlands setting and the way the historical elements were woven into the story.

What I liked most was the chance to spend time with the characters and simply see where the story would go. Not every mystery needs relentless suspense.

Sometimes it is enough to have an interesting cast, a strong setting and a mystery that gradually reveals itself.

This is the sort of book that will appeal to most readers who enjoy cosy crime and traditional mysteries. Easy to read, entertaining and engaging, it is another one for the Christmas or birthday gift list.
