Scary Movie 6 is one of the most stupid movies you will ever sit through, which is why it was a complete joy.
Ever since the very first Scary Movie launched on our screens back in 2000, fans have gone wild for its hilariously absurd and downright outrageous humour, where nothing makes sense, and that’s the whole point.
You don’t go to watch Scary Movie expecting a masterclass in filmmaking, nor should you expect a storyline that makes sense. That was exactly what happened with Scary Movie 6.
Written by and starring the Wayans Brothers, as well as cast alumni like Anna Faris, Regina Hall and Dave Sheridan, Scary Movie 6 is a trip down memory lane. The gang is back together, and once again on the hunt to find the real killer, or killers.
Fans believe that the lower the rating, the better the Scary Movie is going to be. In this case, fans are going to go wild, as I had no idea what on earth I was watching for the entire two hours.
The main theme of this installment was the Scream franchise, where Ghostface is once again on the hunt for unsuspecting victims. Having seen the Scream movies, this was finally something I was able to understand at long last.
Scary Movie 6 paid homage to an abundance of pop culture references, from modern classics such as Get Out, M3gan, and The Substance, and even pitched a sequel idea for the recent Michael Jackson biopic.
It begins with a new character, Tuesday, because for legal reasons the film can’t call her “Wednesday”. In a short span of time, the movie manages to make fun of current circumstances, such as the Epstein files, a new version of K-Pop Demon Hunter’s “Golden”, Covid-19, Saltburn, DEI hires, and even OnlyFans.
If anyone is easily offended, this might not be the right choice of movie for you. It doesn’t shy away from “going there”, and while not every joke lands, it’s like watching a high school reunion play out in front of you.
Suprise cameo appearances in the movie include Teyana Taylor, who is still pissed off that she didn’t win that Oscar, and legendary NBA star Shaquille O’Neal.
Not a lot of Scary Movie 6 made sense. It’s stupid, outlandish, immature, offensive and ridiculous. But that’s why the audience loves it.
