Loloma Fiji has been on a winning streak lately, with a number of top accolades, including recognition of its skincare products on the world stage.

Some notable achievements include the Parent Pick Awards, Top Holiday Gifts Awards, the Eco-excellence Awards and Mums Choice Awards. Founder, Purnima Singh said it felt rewarding to be recognised by an external agency and consumers, as this also boosted brand visibility and credibility.

“We felt proud, and this award serves as a validation of our efforts. It not only celebrates the hard work and passion but also inspires us to keep striving for excellence,” said Singh.

Internationally and locally, there has been a growing trend towards natural, organic and sustainable skincare and a rise in clean, eco-friendly baby products. Parents are more conscious of what ingredients they are using on their children’s skin. There is potential in the New Zealand market for a product such as Loloma Fiji, as it has appealed to consumers who prefer more natural skincare.

Loloma Fiji recently launched its luxurious vegan coconut melts, available in three scents—hibiscus, mango, and coconut. To introduce its new melts, Singh had to study each market as there were unique characteristics.

“We tailored our marketing strategies accordingly by finding the right positioning. Trade shows have been instrumental in helping us understand our value proposition and refine our approach to target markets, as well as identifying the ideal sales channels to effectively reach consumers.”

At the same time, Singh has also become a mother. Juggling motherhood and business can be very challenging, and she said goal setting had become very important. She said this had also given her the ability to work backwards, to plan and prioritise tasks is in order to reach her goals.

“Most importantly, believe in yourself, your vision and take small steps to make this come, it is a journey and on this journey there  will be challenges but keep focused and striving.”

Singh said that it was important to surround yourself with a supportive, encouraging network and people who believe in you.

As a Fijian business entering new markets like New Zealand, the USA, the UK, and Japan, understanding the compliances for different countries, certification requirements, export regulations and labelling requirements had been a challenge. Singh added that understanding target markets and competition was also essential, as each market had specific needs.

To overcome these challenges, it was important for Singh to do thorough market research to understand positioning, consumer preferences and this also helps to determine marketing strategies.

Attending trade shows in New Zealand with support from the Fiji Trade Commission and industry events provide insights and opportunities to connect with key players. She believed in simply networking and talking to people.

“Loloma Fiji’s recognition at the USA Parent Picks Awards is a testament to the quality and authenticity of Fijian products. Winning both ‘Best Baby & Toddler Products of 2024’ and featuring in the ‘Greatest Holiday Gift Guide 2024’ highlights Loloma’s commitment to excellence. These prestigious accolades demonstrate that Loloma’s pure ingredients meet the highest standards and resonate with families globally, further strengthening Fiji’s presence in the international skincare market,” highlighted the Trade Commissioner for the Fiji Trade Commission to Australia and New Zealand, Mr. Daniel Stow.
