Wicked has continued to defy gravity in New Zealand as the film soared to NZD 3M at the Box Office.

In exciting news that will delight fans nationwide, Universal Pictures has also announced long-awaited singalong sessions of Wicked at participating cinemas.

Wicked star Cynthia Erivo has weighed in on the internet discussion on whether audiences can sing along and has given the official OK.

“We spent this long singing it ourselves…it’s time for everyone else to join in. It’s wonderful,” she said.

New Zealand cinemas agreed that from Boxing Day, audiences will be invited to join in and sing all the classic hits to their hearts’ content at special singalong sessions.

“Popular”, “Dancing Through Life”, “The Wizard and I”, and, of course, the famous battle cry smash hit “Defying Gravity” are set to reach new heights during these eagerly anticipated sessions of unified voices.

Globally, Wicked has continued to smash records, earning over $359M at the global box office in just two weekends.

It became the 13th highest-grossing movie of 2024 and still has an astonishing 96 percent Fresh Rotten Tomatoes Audience score and 89 percent Fresh Rotten Tomatoes Critics score.

Tickets for singalong sessions will be available from the 12th of December and commence from Boxing Day.
