World Pasta Day

Today marks the most wonderful time of the year and, no, we’re not talking about Christmas.

As decided by the World Pasta Congress in 1995, the 25th of October commemorates the existence of the renowned Italian noodle. Experts from all around the globe gathered to discuss the beauty of the noodle, with a focus on how best to educate the world about it. It was decided that World Pasta Day will be used to promote the eating of pasta (no complaints here), its cultural value and its culinary impact.

So, in honour of this splendid event, we thought we’d give our readers our picks of the best pasta brands to celebrate. If you’re looking to participate (which we don’t see a reason as to why you won’t), or if you just need an excuse to binge on carbs, then this one is for you.

  1. Ghiotti – you may not have heard of this brand, but one thing’s for sure; you’ve tasted it in your favourite Italian restaurant. For the last six years, this authentically Italian company has supplied NZ restaurants with its range of delectable kinds of pasta, from your favourite spaghetti to the miniature morsel orzo. In 2012, the company decided to make its pasta staples available to the everyday Kiwi by stocking it in local supermarkets. So, if you’re looking to get your hands on some seriously good pasta for your sauce, make sure you pick this one up on your next grocery run. The indulgent pasta range is available at your nearest Countdown.

  2. Girolomoni Organics – this brand’s pasta recipe is simple; they farm their own top-quality organic wheat, use pure spring water from the hills above their fields, and keep the wheat’s wholefood goodness locked in by drying the pasta at a low temperature for at least eight hours. The result? A high-quality, delicious and nutritious organic pasta with that perfect al dente. You’re welcome. To get your hands on this premium range visit Sabato.
