South Australia’s Prairie Hotel has just made some of Australia’s most legendary outback pubs more accessible.
The Outback Pub Pilgrimage is a new fly-in adventure to the country’s most iconic remote watering holes. The experience is limited to just four guests and is led by an expert pilot-guide, who shares the history, characters and stories of the outback at every stop.
Prairie Hotel, Wiliam Creek Hotel, Birdsville Hotel, Prairie Hotel, Parachilna Guests check in at the Prairie Hotel and enjoy a dinner showcasing native and regional ingredients, paired with wines from leading South Australian small producers and a beer from the onsite microbrewery, Parachilna Brew Project.
The following morning, they are chauffeured to the private Parachilna airstrip.
Stop 1 – William Creek Hotel
Flying low over Kati Thanda (Lake Eyre), guests arrive at the William Creek Hotel for morning tea. Dating back to 1935, the hotel began as a siding on the old Ghan railway line and sits within Anna Creek Station, the largest cattle station in Australia.
Stop 2 – Birdsville Hotel
The journey continues by air deep into Channel Country to Birdsville, widely considered Australia’s most remote pub. That evening, guests travel to the edge of the Simpson Desert to watch the sunset before an overnight stay at the legendary Birdsville Hotel.
Stop 3 – Innamincka Hotel
The return flight follows ancient river systems to Innamincka, where the historic Creekside Hotel has welcomed travellers for generations. Guests stop for lunch before continuing the journey.
Return – Prairie Hotel, Parachilna
The experience concludes with the flight back to Parachilna and the Prairie Hotel.
For Kiwis keen to experience all that South Australia has to offer, getting there is easier than ever. Air New Zealand offers direct flights from Auckland to Adelaide five times weekly, along with a twice-weekly service from Christchurch, which restarts in October 2026.
Qantas also operates a seasonal non-stop Auckland–Adelaide route, restarting in October 2026. Qatar Airways has just commenced new daily direct services between Auckland and Adelaide.
