Amazon MGM Studios has recently acquired worldwide rights to the feature-length documentary “I Am: Celine Dion,” directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Irene Taylor. The documentary offers a glimpse into a pivotal period in the life and career of Celine Dion, one of the most renowned figures in pop music history.
“I Am: Celine Dion” provides an intimate exploration of Dion’s past and present, shedding light on her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) and her determination to continue performing for her devoted fans. From behind-the-scenes footage of her touring wardrobe to moments in the recording studio, the documentary unveils the private life of a global megastar like never before. Serving as an emotional tribute to music, the film captures over a year of Dion’s journey towards living authentically amidst illness.
Produced by Sony Music Vision in collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment Canada and Vermilion Films, the documentary will be available for streaming on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, with the release date to be announced later.
In her statement, Dion expressed her desire to document this chapter of her life to raise awareness about her condition and to inspire others facing similar challenges. Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, described the documentary as a raw and intimate portrayal of Dion’s personal and professional journey, expressing gratitude for being entrusted with her story.
The film is directed by Irene Taylor, whose previous works include the Emmy Award-winning “Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements” and “Leave No Trace: A Hidden History Of The Boy Scouts.” Taylor’s expertise in storytelling promises to offer audiences a compelling and poignant narrative of Dion’s life.
Despite health setbacks that led to the cancellation of her Las Vegas residency and Courage World Tour, Dion remains a formidable figure in the music industry, with a career spanning over 40 years and numerous accolades, including five Grammy Awards and two Academy Awards. Her resilience and dedication to her craft continue to inspire fans worldwide.
The documentary was produced by Irene Taylor, Stacy Lorts, and Julie Begey Seureau for Vermilion Films, alongside Tom Mackay for Sony Music Vision. Executive producers include Dave Platel and Denis Savage for Les Productions Feeling, Shane Carter for Sony Music Entertainment Canada, and Krista Wegener for Sony Music Vision.
