#DIYDOCS: Pop-up Exhibition at Westfield Newmarket

To mark the 60th anniversary of the Dr. Martens 1461 shoes rolling off the production line, the iconic brand is collaborating with emerging New Zealand artists and giving them a platform to tell their stories.

The first pair of Dr. Martens boots rolled off the production line on the 1st April 1960. Throughout history, the brand has been adopted and subverted by diverse individuals, musicians, youth cultures and niches. The 60th anniversary pop-up pays homage to the 1461 shoe, while celebrating individuals that form part of the ever-growing Docs community.

A band of young, local creatives, Lochie Stonehouse, Jimmy D, Portia Prince & Miro have each customised a pair of the famous 1461 shoe, which will be displayed in a pop-up Dr. Martens exhibition at Westfield Newmarket, Auckland (Level 1, opp Under Armour) from May 24th – 30th.

On Friday May 28th (5pm – 7pm) and Saturday May 29th (11am – 2pm), within the pop-up space at Westfield Newmarket, Docs lovers will also have the opportunity to bring their own Docs in-centre to be personalised by Auckland-based artist Finn Wilson (@finn_gerry_wilson).
