September air hints at the changing seasons and a gentle shift from winter to spring.
For many, it’s also a month filled with celebrations, particularly birthdays. And what better way to celebrate than with a delicious cake?
To make these occasions even sweeter, I asked some of my colleagues about their favourite cake flavours. While some went into great detail and suggested places where we could find their favourites, some preferred baking their own cakes and experimenting with flavours.
Below are a few standout flavours that made the cut.
Ray’s Pick – Classic Chocolate
A favourite flavour for decades, chocolate cake never goes out of style. Rich, moist, and decadently sweet, it’s a hit at any birthday party.
Sam’s Pick – Banana Cake
A banana cake is the epitome of elegance and simplicity. The subtle banana flavour is a perfect backdrop for various frosting options, making it versatile, specifically a lemon drizzle, according to Sam.
Jen’s Pick – Red Velvet
Red velvet stands out for its vibrant colour and hint of cocoa and cream cheese frosting. It combines visual appeal with great taste, making it a popular choice for swifties like me celebrating their 22nd Red-inspired birthdays.
Ray’s Pick – Carrot Cake
Carrot cake is a fantastic choice for those who enjoy a sweet and spice combination. It’s moist and flavourful, with a beautiful frosting. Ray advised avoiding raisins in them and suggested trying the one from Original Foods.
Lemon Cake
Another favourite for all was the lemon drizzle, quite popular during tea time. For those who prefer something lighter and tangy, lemon drizzle has a refreshing citrus flavour and zesty twist.
Whether you’re planning a party or simply indulging in a sweet treat, these flavours offer something for everyone to enjoy.
