Jacinda Ardern supports Rapid Relief Team

The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) have spent the last few days assisting the emergency service personnel and Defence staff battling the forest fires in the Nelson-Tasman region. Yesterday, Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s Prime Minister showed her support.

Since Tuesday, the RRT volunteers have been handing out 700 free meals, and nearly 1500 drinks to tired and hungry firefighters at all hours of the day.

The RRT is an initiative of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church and is staffed by Church volunteers who provide catering services during a range of emergencies and charitable events. Lloyd Grimshaw, from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, said the RRT were happy to help in any small way. “The RRT are delighted to support our emergency response organisations, and we are humbled by their continued efforts in keeping us safe,” stated Grimshaw.

“We have witnessed first-hand the selflessness of the emergency services personnel, many of whom are volunteers themselves, as they continue to work hard to save lives and properties—and we hope the food we have and continue to serve has gone a small way to help keep our heroes fighting.”
