LUSH Helps Protect The Māui Dolphin

Lush Cosmetics has partnered with Tāngaroa Tuia te Ora, the Endangered Species Foundation, to help fight bottom trawling and protect the Māui Dolphin, with fewer than 50 left in the wild.

Found only in New Zealand, the Māui dolphin is one of the smallest and rarest dolphins in the world, and is a deeply significant species with strong cultural importance.

Its habitat has been impacted by bottom trawling, which has devastated the seafloor, destroyed coral forests, released carbon, and wiped out the food sources that dolphins and all marine life rely on to survive.

As New Zealand is at risk of becoming one of the first countries in the world to allow a dolphin species to go extinct, Kiwis must advocate for protecting the oceans and native marine life.

To raise urgent awareness of the effects of bottom trawling, Lush has released a limited-edition Māui Dolphin soap.

To raise over NZD 10,000, 75 percent of the sales price (excluding tax) will be donated directly to Tāngaro Tuia te Ora, supporting high-priority conservation projects, protecting endangered wildlife, and advocating for stronger environmental protections that safeguard the oceans.

Alongside this, Lush will provide educational resources and invite customers to sign the petition to ‘Stop Bottom Trawling’ in-store.

As a company with campaigning at its heart, Lush Cosmetics has been working closely with local activists and grassroots campaign groups who dedicate their lives to the causes that matter most to them.

By providing a platform that drives awareness, education, and funding, Lush acknowledges its collective responsibility to safeguard New Zealand’s biodiversity.

Its partnership with Tāngaro Tuia te Ora aims to deepen understanding of the critical threats facing the unique marine life, creating a space for community action to ensure these species can survive and thrive.

Kiwis can support the cause by visiting Lush stores across New Zealand to sign the petition, or by purchasing a Māui Dolphin soap in-store or online.
