MAFS S10 E14 | “I Knew It”

MAFS

Married At First Sight (MAFS): whether you know it, love it and can’t get enough of it or have absolutely no clue what it is, it is undoubtedly all anyone in the office is talking about.

For all those too pressed for time to watch (or would rather watch anything else), this is your (somewhat) reliable source of juicy updates to keep up with all the office banter.

For the avid MAFS viewers, if you’re here because you want to know whether or not your MAFS opinions are controversial, I hope you find solace below.

Episode Fourteen: Claire’s Confession

After the drama of the second commitment ceremony, which saw two couples leaving the experiment, two brand new couples, who appeared not to be well-matched based on first impressions, were married.

The experts justify their matches with a cliche tale as old as time: opposites attract. New couples, Hugo and Tayla, and Rupert and Evelyn, had cringe-under-blankets because you can’t watch the discomfort of the wedding ceremonies.

Hugo, who shares the name of Tayla’s goat, had said that he was attracted to dominant, confident women, as a strong single mum raised him after his father passed at an early age (Freud would approve).

Meanwhile, Tayla loudly proclaimed she hated cats and interrupted Hugo’s vows, claiming he couldn’t have known she was attractive before their ceremony as he complimented her appearance in his pre-written speech.

Tayla’s abrasive interjections made for a painful watching experience. However, even more painful to watch were Evelyn and Rupert.

Rupert’s anxiety arriving at the ceremony was evident. His anxiety only multiplied at the sight of his model (literally) wife. Evelyn was confident and charming, starting conversations and asking questions that dissolved into silence before Rupert mumbled a comment about how beautiful she looked.

“I don’t know. I’m trying here with this fella, and I’m just not getting anything in bloody return,” shared an exasperated Evelyn.

However, the two weddings mainly served as comic relief for the hyped-up drama that stewed and stretched annoyingly long over the entire episode. Claire awoke the following day from the commitment ceremony, wracked with guilt.

She alludes to having done something disrespecting the parameters of the experiment. While the producers attempted to shroud her wrongdoing in mystery, the reason was apparent: Claire and Adam had indeed had an indiscretion of some kind of which Jesse had accused them.

However, in true MAFS style, Claire divulges her secret kiss with Adam to Sandy. Claire’s confession created back-and-forth confessionals throughout the episode, which bored this viewer, waiting for the admission to be over.

Claire asks to speak with Jesse outside during Tayla and Hugo’s wedding reception.

I’ve broken your trust,

“I’ve broken your trust,” confessed a jumpy and nervous Claire, “that night when we all went out, and Adam and I went outside, we kissed.”

Jesse doesn’t immediately respond. His reaction was surprisingly subdued compared to his angry outburst when he accused Claire and Adam of doing something suspicious.

“I knew it,” said Jesse.

Jesse gave a humourless laugh before he shrunk into sadness.

“I thought you pulled me out here to break up with me. I couldn’t imagine anything worse. Yet what you’ve said is worse.”

The devastating blow was intercut with the laughing and joyous Adam and Janelle, who appeared to enjoy the festivities at Evelyn and Rupert’s reception. The truth will be out, and Adam will surely face the consequences in the next episode.
