The Mamaku story began over ten years ago when three sisters, Tessa, Adele and Karen, were asked by their elder (kaumātua) to bring the medicinal effects of the Mamaku into a modern context.
Growing up in the beautiful coastal village of Waimārama, Ngāti Kahungunu, the sisters have always used rongoā (traditional Māori medicine) for any ailments. Plants, trees, and soils were their medicine cabinets. The trio took particular interest in Mamaku, the black tree fern native to Aotearoa, and using its properties to help treat eczema.
Eczema is an inflammatory skin disease that can result from environmental and genetic factors. This common skin disease usually presents as skin dryness, itchiness, and a rash. The trio of sisters created their own unique and specially created Ora Mamaku extract, from which they’ve created three essential products, including the Mamaku Gentle Hydra Cleansing Wash, the Mamaku Advanced Hydra Gel, and the Mamaku Gentle Hydra Moisturising Cream.
These natural skincare products are game changers, and the key ingredient, Mamaku, is all about giving skin the ultimate hydration, which is particularly important in these colder winter months.
