Kiwi/Samoan Rose Matafeo is now officially one of the best comedians in the world. Over the weekend she took out 2018 Edinburgh Comedy award, the prestigious comedy prize handed out at the world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Here in NZ, she’s already a veteran of our comedy scene at the age of 26. She’s won the famous Billy T Award and the Fred Award for best NZ Comedy Festival show, and written and starred in TVNZ’s Funny Girls.

Her Festival show Horndog has received rave reviews overseas as well as back home, and her nomination for the Edinburgh Comedy Award has been called “overdue”. The winner of the award receives £10,000 ($19,276).

She accepted the award from past winner Steve Coogan, one of several famous names to win the award since its inception in 1981 as the Perrier Award.

Previous winners also include Dylan Moran, Demetri Martin, and Netflix’s famous Hannah Gadsby – could a Netflix special be in store for Matafeo?
