Sneak Peak to Auckland Airport’s New Outlet Mall

Here’s something to look forward to in 2024! Auckland Airport has unveiled its plans to open a $200 million-plus premium outlet shopping centre, Manawa Bay – featuring 100 retail stores!

The new outlet shopping centre will house premium fashion, athleisure, lifestyle, homeware brands, food and dining options.

It is located near motorways and major arterial routes, four minutes from Auckland Airport terminals, and 25 minutes by car from Auckland’s CBD.

“This will be New Zealand’s first ever premium purpose-built outlet centre, focused on the best international and local brands and to offer an unrivalled shopping experience to customers,” said Mark Thomson, Auckland Airport’s general manager of Property and Commercial.

According to Thomson, there are three entry points and a “figure-of-eight” layout for simple movement and customer navigation. Once finished, the building will have 24,000 sqm of retail space with shops that range in size from 50 to 1500sqm.

Manawa Bay is designed in collaboration with TRCB Architects, which is in charge of creating the DFO Perth outlet building at Perth Airport. The park-like setting of the outlet centre, says architect Graham Taylor, will make it “one of the leading outlet centres in Australasia.”

The centre’s food and beverage area will feature indoor and outdoor seating and large windows that maximise water views and northern sun.

Apart from customer amenities that introduce warm colour, natural tones, and cosy, tactile textures, the interior will be minimal, with concrete floors and an overall industrial finish.

Auckland Airport said energy-efficient, robust, and long-lasting materials will be used to build Manawa Bay as it aims to achieve a 5-Star Green design and build with this project.
