Third Mamma Mia Movie Could be Made

Here we go again.

Mamma Mia! Is arguably one of the most fun, energetic, and most loved musical movies to date. Released in 2008, the smash hit film starred the likes of Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried and Pierce Brosnan.

Obviously based off the music of powerhouse Swedish band, Abba – one of the world’s most cherished groups – Mamma Mia! Had worked successfully as a stage show before tuning to the silver screen in the late 2000s.

But recent reports have caught the attention of fans, that a third instalment of the story could be about to head our way.

Writer of both the stage show and movie, Judy Craymer has said that she has every intention to give fans one last hurrah.

“It’s in its earliest stages. I don’t want to over-egg it, but I know there’s a trilogy there.”

In 2018, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was released a decade after the original film. Stars included regular faces such as Christine Baranski and Dame Julie Walters, but fans were upset about the pre-death of matriarch Donna, played by Streep. Craymer is convinced that Streep will return if asked.

“There is a story there, and I do think Meryl should come back – and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna.”

Walters has since semi-retired from acting due to her diagnosis of bowel cancer. The star has said however, she could be tempted at making a comeback for a third Mamma Mia! reunion.

Speaking in 2018, Walters said that her acting days were essentially over.

“The oncologist said to me, ‘What do you think has caused the cancer?’ And the first thing that came to my mind was acting. I have to be totally in it. It’s very stressful. You’re being judged. It’s a stressful job and I don’t sleep when I’m working. It’s not good for me,” said Walters.

“I don’t want to work again,” she added. “Unless it’s another Mamma Mia.”

Lips are tight at whether we will see a return to the Greek islands for another Abba singalong, but we will have to wait to find out if the books will be reopened, or if they will stay shut.
