There’s a new trend sweeping the kitchen, Mountain dew waffles. Wait.. what?

Soda and Waffles – two foods you never thought would make a pair. The taste is as expected, Mountain Dew warmed inside a plain toasted pastry, and yet, its surprisingly delicious. To satisfy your curiosity, we’ve included the recipe below. Be sure to give it a go next time your baking in the kitchen.

Ingredients

SYRUP
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup Mountain Dew soda
1/2 cup light corn syrup

WAFFLES
2 cups (about 8 1/2 oz.) all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. table salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 cup sour cream
1 cup Mountain Dew soda
4 large eggs, beaten
6 Tbsp. (3 oz.) unsalted butter, melted
Cooking spray

Step 1: The syrup

Combine sugar, Mountain Dew and corn syrup in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to the point, and simmer until it forms a syrup consistency. Let it cool for 10 minutes before drowning your waffles in sweetened goodness.

Step 2: The waffles

Preheat the waffle make to a medium heat. Mix together flower, baking powder, salt, and baking soda in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together sour cream, Mountain Dew and eggs. Combine both mixtures and whisky until smooth.

Step 3: Cook

Coat waffle iron with cooking spray. Pour about 1/3 cup batter into each quadrant (will depend on size of iron) and cook until lightly browned and firm. Serve with syrup.
