DreamWorks Animation has brought to life a new version of Peter Brown’s well-loved, acclaimed, and bestselling book The Wild Robot.
The movie tells the compelling story of a robot named ROZZUM unit 7134, affectionately known as Roz, who ends up stranded on a deserted island. Roz must adapt to the challenging environment, forge connections with the island’s animals, and ultimately become the caretaker of a young gosling.
The Wild Robot features the talents of Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of Roz, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Pedro Pascal as Fox Fink, Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara as opossum Pinktail, Oscar nominee Bill Nighy as goose Longneck, Kit Connor as Gosling Brightbill, and Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu as Vontra, another robot who will cross paths with Roz on the island.
The movie is about self-discovery, an exciting exploration of the intersection between technology and nature, and a touching examination of the essence of life and its connection to all living beings.
It is written and directed by three-time Oscar nominee Chris Sanders, known for DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon, The Croods, and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, with production by Jeff Hermann, co-producer of DreamWorks Animation’s The Boss Baby 2: Family Business and the Kung Fu Panda franchise.
Peter Brown’s The Wild Robot, an illustrated middle-grade novel that initially hit the shelves in 2016, immediately garnered widespread attention, claiming the #1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list. The book’s popularity led to a trilogy, which now includes The Wild Robot Escapes and The Wild Robot Protects.
Brown’s exceptional work on the Wild Robot series and other bestsellers has earned him numerous awards and accolades, including a Caldecott Honor, a Horn Book Award, and multiple E.B. White Awards and Honors.
He has also received a Children’s Choice Award for Illustrator of the Year, two Irma Black Honors, a Golden Kite Award, and a New York Times Best Illustrated Book Award.
The Wild Robot is coming to theatres in New Zealand on the 26th of September by Universal Pictures.
