WINE DOWN WEDNESDAY // International Success For This Duo

This is the second year in a row that Mission Estate’s winemakers are celebrating a double win at the prestigious International Wine Challenge in London. This year, their 2014 Mission Reserve Syrah and their 2014 Mission Estate Syrah won gold medals. The Estate Syrah also won a trophy. The team at Mission Estate is ecstatic and says their ongoing success is a real credit to their winemaking and viticulture team.

“Our team are extremely dedicated to their craft and to see their hard work acknowledged on an international platform is extremely satisfying,” explained Peter Holley, Mission Estate’s CEO.

The 2014 Estate Syrah Tasting Notes:

The nose exhibits vibrant dark berry notes with good spice and black pepper overtones. The fruit driven palate has a soft texture and good persistence. This wine is made in a medium bodied style with good freshness that shows off the great flavours of Syrah grown in Hawke’s Bay without the strong influence from maturation in oak barrels.

The 2014 Reserve Syrah Tasting Notes:

The nose is vibrant, suggesting sweet spice and black fruit aromas with some black pepper notes and striking floral overtones. The palate is full, medium to full bodied with good fruit weight. It is very fresh without any hardness; 2014 is a seriously good Syrah vintage. The ripe tannins are really structural and finely textured.
