You’re Invited to Try a Taste of The Deep South at Somm

Auckland’s newest wine bar, Somm, is bringing an exclusive tasting experience usually reserved for visitors to the deep south straight to Auckland’s Waterfront.

Somm has announced the first of their cellar door series, Guest in Residence, which will bring some of Aotearoa’s finest winery experiences to Auckland’s doorstep, starting this August.

Opening with a showcase of Mt Difficulty wines, a collection of vineyards for the Bannockburn, Gibbston and Bendigo regions, and home of the renowned Roaring Meg label.

During the six week series, guests can delight in bespoke Mt Difficulty wine flights, with options to try a flight of single vineyard wines, a vertical journey through the vintages, or an exploration of Central Otago’s sub-regions.

Foley Hospitality Executive Chef Gavin Doyle has created an exclusive set menu that allows guests to indulge in a delectable meal and glass of matched Roaring Meg wine for a reduced price. The set menu includes the choice of market fish crudo, potato, truffle and smoked brie pizza, or confit duck leg with Parisian gnocchi.

Mt Difficulty’s Chief Winemaker, Greg Lane, will, for one weekend only, personally host tastings of the varietals and compare rare library vintages. Greg will lead the sampling of some of his favourite drops and share the backstory of some of Central Otago’s most enjoyed wines.

Somm will also be running an exclusive giveaway, in which guests of the series can enter the draw to win a luxury trip to Queenstown.

Guest in Residence with Mt Difficulty will run until September 17 2023. The cellar door tasting with Greg Lane will take place on August 19 and 20, 12pm – 6pm.

No bookings are necessary to access the exclusive cellar door experience.
